Monochrome ribbons print a single colour on the surface of ID cards. This is a very cost-effective method for customising pre-printed cards. It is an ideal solution for printing cards that do not require full colour printing such as photos.

SMART printers offer a ribbons saver or “partial printing” mode that when turned on will demand the printer to use only the amount of ink necessary to print the data on the card and not advance the ribbon a full card width. In some cases, this feature can almost double the number of printed cards from a single roll of ink.
